Benefits of wearing colour
Sometimes it can feel challenging to wear colour. Matching colours to put together an outfit can seem like a complicated math equation. If you opened my wardrobe one year ago, you would find a sea of neutrals. More classic colours such as white, grey, navy and black are more timeless, but wearing colour can take a boring outfit to something cool and trendy. I lately have found myself wearing more colour; it makes me feel more confident, and I can express my personality. Wearing colour has been proven to brighten your mood and the mood of others. When I wear a colour, I like to pair one colourful item with neutral pieces. The most compliments I have received are for this baby pink Furla bag (which I never expected). Wearing colour can be a great conversation starter and makes you appear more friendly.
How to include more colour
1. Look for patterns that include colour
Patterns can be one of the easiest ways to incorporate colour into your wardrobe. Patterns and colour can be a striking combination. Just make sure that you keep it simple by including some more neutral pieces otherwise, your outfit can have a little too much going on.
2. Try the monochromatic look
Right now, monochromatic looks are trendy. However, the colours do not need to match to create a monochrome outfit. Using similar colour tones and different textures can make your outfit look chic.
3. Try the power suit
Colour can be a fun way to spice up your office or evening wear. Pick your favourite colour and find a blazer with a matching bottom. A power suit must be an exact match, or it will look tacky. Some of my favourite colours for a power suit are salmon, blue and purple.
4. Use of pop of colour to brighten up your outfit
Sometimes if you are only used to wearing neutrals, it can seem daunting to start wearing more colour. Try wearing just a pop of colour in your accessories. Try finding an accessory such as a scarf and handbag with some colour. This will elevate your outfit and make you look classy.
5. Try wearing your favourite colour on a t-shirt
The oversized t-shirt is now a staple in everyone's wardrobe. It looks effortless and is the perfect off-duty look. Pair your tee with a pair of mum jeans or a denim skirt.
6. Try using softer colours to replace neutrals
I love softer colours and pastels. I like to use softer colours to replace neutrals. For example, you can wear the colour blush instead of brown. Another colour swap is wearing navy blue instead of black.
