How to wear a skirt

Do you always find yourself reaching for jeans? Skirts are feminine and versatile pieces that I would recommend you try incorporating into your wardrobe. Wearing skirts can be a simple but effective way to elevate any outfit. However, sometimes it can be difficult to know how to wear them in a way that is both comfortable and stylish. Here are some tips to help you rock a skirt with confidence.

1. Find the right length

The length of your skirt can greatly impact on how comfortable and confident you feel wearing it. Try a maxi skirt that falls to the ankle if you're taller. A maxi skirt looks great in autumn and spring with a cropped jumper. A knee-length option is great for most people, no matter your height. A knee-length skirt looks nice with a T-shirt or even a more cropped top; it depends on the look you're trying to achieve. Mini skirts are a casual and trendy look that can elongate your legs. I like to pair my white tennis skirt with a graphic oversized T-shirt or hoodie. Make sure to find a length that makes you feel comfortable and confident.

2. Decide on a shape

Skirts come in all shapes and sizes, so choosing the right one for your body type is essential. A pencil skirt will enhance your curves if you have an hourglass figure. If you have a pear-shaped body, an A-line skirt accentuates your waist and creates balance with your hips. Asymmetrical skirts have more volume and provide a more dramatic look. Pleated skirts give a feminine vibe, and they can be worn casually or formally, depending on the cut or fabric. Experiment with different shapes to see what works best for you.

3. Pair with the right top

When wearing skirts, the top you pair with it can make or break your outfit.

Pair your skirt with a simple t-shirt or blouse for a casual look. Consider wearing a blouse, cardigan, or blazer for a more formal event. Make sure the colours complement each other as well. It’s important to think about how your pair your top and skirt in terms of fabric choice and silhouette. For example, Flowy skirts pair well with a fitted shirt to contrast against the volume of the fabric. When trying to match colours, think of colours that either feature complimentary colours, colour temperature, or a similar tone in colour.

4. Choose the right shoes

The shoes you wear with your skirt can also make a big difference. Wedges can be a great option if you’re wearing a maxi skirt, or try sandals, or boots. If you’re wearing a shorter skirt, try a pair of flats or heels to elongate your legs. Don’t be afraid to try wearing some flashy sneakers with a skirt it’s a really trendy and comfortable look at the moment.

5. Accessorise

The right accessories can help take your skirt outfit to the next level. Consider adding a belt to define your waist or a statement necklace to draw attention to your neckline. Don’t overdo it though, as too many accessories can take away from the elegance of a skirt.

Following these tips, you can confidently wear skirts and elevate your style game. Consider your body type, comfort level, and occasion when pairing the right skirt with the right top and accessories. Ok now you’re ready to rock that skirt you know you can.
