I love candles; they are a living piece of décor and make your house smell delightful. I like to buy soy wax candles as they have no carcinogens and are made of natural materials (soybean oil). Scented candles are particularly handy if you have pets who stink up your house (like mine do).
The problem with buying candles is they are expensive, and it's challenging to find a scent to my taste.
I decided to start making my candles. To reduce my environmental waste, I like to upcycle existing or used candle jars. I ask my friends and family if they have any spare jars.
Making candles is also a great activity with the kids or your partner. Soy candles are thoughtful handmade gift ideas for birthdays or special events.
Here is my recipe for making homemade soy candles.
Ingredients/equipment:
Chop Stick
Candle Wick
Soy Wax Flakes
Glass Jar
Microwave
Steps
Fill the jar to the top with soy wax flakes.
Place jar in the microwave for one and a half minutes.
Melt more wax if needed.Place 10 approximately drops of essential oils into the wax. Adjust the number of drops to the amount of scent you want.
.Wrap the top of the wick around a chopstick and suspend the chopstick across the top of the jar to hold the wick in the centre of the candle.
Leave the candle to set for approximately 2 hours.
Decorate the jar if you want to!
You're done! That was easy. Now you can make your own homemade soy candles.
