Trend 1: Orange Peel Test
Relationship tests have been around since the beginning of social media. The Orange Peel Test is a new trend that assesses the depth of love in a very wholesome way. The test involves asking your partner to peel an orange for you and filming their response. It can be sweet and entertaining or reveal a sour outcome, which can be very entertaining.
Trend 2: Silent Reviews of Products
Sometimes, a single facial expression can say a thousand words. Are you tired of watching haul videos and lengthy reviews of your favourite products? Silent reviews may be for you. This cool new trend is where Tiktoker films themselves reacting to a product using only facial expressions and gestures. If you enjoy playing charades, never know what to say and enjoy trying new products, give silent reviewing a go.
Trend 3: Ins and Outs for 2024
This trend is related to New Year's resolutions (except it's way more groovy). Instead, you list behaviours, activities or things you will be partaking In, and what you will be eliminating Out your life in 2024. For this new Tiktok trend, you must use the Text Tool to create a simple Ins and Outs list.
Trend 4: Ryan Gosling Meme
The Barbie movie taught us that we are all ‘More Than Kenough'. I am still getting over Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie's snub from the Best Director and Best Actress Oscar categories.
Something golden came out of this awards season with Ryan Gosling's shocked reaction to winning best original song for 'I Am Just Ken'. This video has been used over and over to create memes on TikTok.
Trend 5: Murder on the Dance Floor
The 2001 hit 'Murder on the Dance Floor' is murdering the charts on Spotify and Tiktok. The Thriller/Comedy 'Saltburn' breathed new life into the song thanks to a particular scene in the movie where one of the main characters, Oliver, dances around Felix's family's estate fully naked to the 2001 hit "Murder On The Dancefloor" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor. The song is now being parodied by many Tiktok creators or just featured as a song in many Tiktoks. Are we all not a little like Oliver after a few wines on Friday night? No DJ is stealing my groove!
Trend 6: Yes And?
Ariana is no Glinda, but she does create some good drama. In response to cheating allegations, Ariana created a new song called 'Yes and?' This song has become very popular with TikTok content creators. Creators will usually start a TikTok where they use the sassy lyrics to pose a question, to which the creator responds with a yes. An example could be my boyfriend saying, 'Should you stay up all night on Tiktok?' I respond 'Yes and'.
Trend 7: Mwah Blocked
This trending Mwah block was created by TikTok user Kamtunechi. She has 5.6 million followers on the platform and has produced a few viral sound effects. The trending sound effect shows you blocking people who are hurting you emotionally. This trend usually involves a TikTok lip-syncing to the lyrics of the sound effect and then strutting off with attitude after the sound effect is finished. We should be saying Mwah to toxic people in 2024.
I hope you have gained some inspiration or had some fun learning about the trends circulating on TikTok this month. Toodles!
